SEND

At Ramsey Spinning Infants School we are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to achieve their best. The achievement, attitude and well-being of every child matters and inclusion is the responsibility of everyone within our school. Every teacher is a teacher of every pupil, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. We respect the unique contribution which every individual can make to our school community.

At Ramsey Spinning Infants we believe that children learn best when they are interested, motivated and engaged within the learning process. Our curriculum is coherently planned and is underpinned by our school values. It is designed to promote curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. We want all of our children to feel empowered and to develop into independent, lifelong learners equipped with personal characteristics required to succeed in life.

Our curriculum encompasses the formal requirement of the EYFS and National Curriculum, which provides the framework for determining the main learning expectations, building on prior knowledge and ensuring the progression of acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Our core belief is that all pupils should succeed. It is vital that all adults have a comprehensive knowledge of the starting points, learning styles, social emotional development and next steps of all pupils. Through careful assessment, both academically and those to support identification of SEND we can best support pupils to achieve their potential.

We aim to meet the needs of all pupils through carefully planned, ordinarily available quality first teaching. Providing the tools, tailored activities and sensory and emotional support needed on a daily basis. Where pupils’ needs go above and beyond what is ordinarily available, we aim to provide an adapted curriculum including advice from professionals; social, emotional, mental health needs; appropriate interventions and effective adult support. The SENCo will ensure that pupils are assessed, monitored, planned for and regularly reviewed to improve outcomes and therefore make at least appropriate progress.

We strive to help pupils understand how to value their individual strengths and skills. As well as knowing what they need to help them succeed, this will empower pupils with the autonomy to use and seek support that works for them. Ultimately providing the skills they need to navigate their career as a learner and into adulthood. Supporting independence in this way is vital.

Communication between class teachers, support staff, parents, leadership and SENCo is vital in planning and delivering curriculum and support for pupils with SEND. Using central information sharing, regular meetings with SENCo and parent drop-in sessions, we aim to join up our thinking and effectively assess when outside support needs to be sought. We work with our pastoral workers to refer and tailor support for families and children. This is also key when ensuring smooth transitions across phases as well as day-to-day.
