Maths

At Ramsey Junior School we follow the White Rose Mathematics Programme of Study which is closely interlinked with the National Curriculum for England. This curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

The curriculum covers the following areas: Number, Measurement, Geometry, Statistics, Ratio and Proportion and Algebra.

Through our teaching of Mathematics, we seek to develop children's love and understanding of the subject. We support them to engage in a subject that is accessible to all. The skills developed will support them in everyday life and from an early stage we encourage them to develop their understanding of mathematical concepts in context. Children are given the opportunities to apply their mathematical skills in reasoning based activities during mathematics lessons and across the wider curriculum. These skills will support them in everyday life and from an early stage we encourage them to develop their understanding of mathematical concepts in context. Our Ramsey Junior School team endeavours to develop each pupil, individually and personally, promoting confidence, enthusiasm and enjoyment for Mathematics. Children are encouraged to see Mathematics as part of their everyday life, building on their foundation and prior knowledge as they learn new skills to a very high standard, which are mirrored and fostered by all staff. As a result of this, children learn to appreciate the vital role and relevance of Mathematics in society; the contributions of Mathematics in the development of Science, Technology and communication with other cultures; resulting in a progressive and thriving civilisation.

At Ramsey Junior School, we want all of our pupils to be able to recall times table facts with accuracy and speed.  To support children with developing this skill, we use Times Tables Rock Stars from Year 2 (Ramsey Spinning Infants) through to Year 6.

Times Table Rock Stars is an online programme for times table practice that is both effective and motivational. At the start of the year, your child will receive their login and password details which will allow them access the games to improve their accuracy and speed of recall and, should they wish, opportunities to compete against their classmates and children around the world.

When it comes to times tables, bursts of daily practise are more effective than spending hours once a week. Please encourage your child to play the game at home to develop a regular habit that will assist their Mathematics, just as daily reading helps propel their reading and writing.

Times Tables Rock Stars can be easily accessed with internet browsers or alternatively with phones and tablets using the Times Table Rock Star app. For internet browsers, visit https://ttrockstars.com/ for apps, visit the App/Play Store.
