Year 5
Hello! I’m Mr Parnell and I teach Oak class. I have been teaching now at this wonderful school for over 15 years and have always been passionate about making a positive difference to children’s lives and giving them a love of learning. I love music and play the piano, saxophone and sing in some local choirs. I live with my wife and three children and we enjoy visiting family, reading together, listening to music, eating out and going on lots of adventures.
Hello, I’m Mrs Pope and I teach Sycamore Class in Year 5. This is my first year at Ramsey Junior school and I feel privileged to be part of such a wonderful and kind school. I love spending time with my children and we enjoy all things outdoors (even if we do get a little muddy!) I also spend much of my time reading with my children. At the moment we are enjoying the murder most ladylike series of books - full of mystery and intrigue. Sycamore Class will tell you, I’m not the best at drawing but I’m trying really hard to improve and I have been practising to get better, so watch this space!
Our hard working Teaching Assistants are Mrs Brannigan, Miss Eldergill, Mrs Dingle, Mrs Nash, and Mrs Roberston. They are all kind and caring, supporting our children in all that they do.
We are currently studying and being completely immersed in our topic, The Shang Dynasty. We will learn so much about the Shang people in many of our subjects from reading and history! Ask any Year 5 about the Oracle Bones and Fao Hu.
In Year 5 we enjoy reading, we are reading five times a week at home and bringing in our reading records to earn those all important house points!
We’re very fortunate to have our fabulous library, here at the Junior School so we have ready access to change our reading books, so we always have a book to take home and share with our families.
During maths we have just completed Roman Numerals and look forward to learning our place value digits up to 100,000.
Every half term we all get the opportunity to share our homework. As class teachers we love to display our homework and talk about each piece. In Year 5 we are very proud of the effort children put into their homework.
Our PE day will be Tuesday in Autumn, Rowan PE day is also Monday and Ash and Sycamore’s second PE day is on a Thursday.
